The Chinese New Year Lantern Festival

The Lantern Festival marks the end of the Chinese New Year festivities and is performed with the first full moon of the year. It is a special, magical and full of lights that the Chinese make a reality. In the night of the lights and lanterns there are thousands of lights that flood the houses and buildings. A classic of Chinese cuisine dating back to the Three Kingdoms, when Zhuge Liang, a military strategist saw a plague take over his army. As an offering to cure them, he gave life to some flour "heads" stuffed with pork and beef. It was in the north of the country where these boiled buns began to receive the name of baozi, reflecting the fact that they come stuffed. It is also there where salty foods are served, while in the south they play two sides, adopting sweeter flavors (or a mixture of salty and sweet) as with meigancai, which comes stuffed with pickled vegetables.
